Golden from Within

A closer look

I gravitate towards the use of basic shapes to start. I blend two blocks together with a defining line between the two. Using paint and tools, I apply reductive techniques with markings and scrapings to reveal multiple layers of paint under each surface.
This piece has a block color shape of pale gold metallic set on top of a matted grey. The painting has some red underlying details against the colors which provide textured depth to the surface. There are lots of cracking and heavy scraping and marking throughout.
The metallic paint has an interesting reflective quality that changes tones depending on the lighting. Lighting plays a key role with all art.
